A Weekend to Remember

I'm meeting someone later. I hope it goes well. I miss talking to my old friend. I hope he's doing well. It's been a long time since we've talked about the changes going on in our lives. He still has a special place in my heart. If only he was, but he isn't so I can't. All I could do is keep the special feelings as he has someone else whom he really loves. :-(

This song has been lingering in my mind.

On the Breath of an Angel
Anggun

Wherever I go
Whatever I see
Over oceans unknown
You are always with me

Pure as the water
We float on this wave
On the breath of an angel
I'll fly away

At the ends of your fingers
I follow tonight
Caught in the lighting
Of a thousand horizons

We dance for no reason
You hold on so tight
Lost in the feeling
Of a wonderful ride

Di semua bahasa
Semua warna
Kupahami kata
Yang kau ukir indah

Nyanyi beku angin
Cairkan sengat suria
Di relung hatiku
Bernyanyi Bidadari

I can hear every word
I see everywhere
Take me into your world
You can answer my prayers

Rivers of hours
Where time is so rare
Hold me forever
Say you'll always be there

Wherever I go
Whatever I see
Over oceans unknown
You are always with me

Pure as the water
We float on this wave
On the breath of an angel
I'll fly away

Spanglish

So I got a dvd copy of this movie today. Knowing Adam Sandler, I was expecting the humourous outbreak to be all throughout the film. WRONG! It was quite unique from most of the roles that he has portrayed.

For an actor who is more known in comedy roles, Adam can seriously transcend into a role he is normally not famous. Paz Vega was simply natural. She reminds me of Penelopé Cruz when she started out in the US movie circuit. However, Paz surely has a much sweeter face that exhibits innocence over sexiness.

It also tackled an issue of a mother being so obssessed with exercise that she fails to realise that her own daughter has an entirely different body structure. Téa Leoni's character was very complex. It was hard to understand on how and what kind of mother she was to her children, wife to her husband.

There's also a mother who fails to realise that her alcoholism has affected her daughter's (Téa) outlook in life in being a mother and a wife. It was uncanny that she managed to turn things around by using her misgivings as something her daughter should veer from.

I my honest opinion, this movie is great as it shows how the cultural diversity affects upbringing and how their children turn out.

Songs that have charmed me for the past week

Wednesday, January 26, 2005

For some strange reason, I've been listening to Anggun's French album Au Nom De La Lune. It has essentialy given me an impression on how intimate and soulful the lyrics were. Truly, the songs were made from the heart, and one can actually feel intoxicated in emotions of love and romance whilst listening to the songs.

Here are the lyrics to some of my favourite songs from the said CD.

La Rose Des Vents
A Rose in the Wind
Anggun

Je suis ne l'envers
Tout au bout de la mer
Dans un lotus ouvert
Aux bras de Shiva
Loin de chez toi J'ai grandi, j'ai rv
Aux pays des orchides
Aux masques rouges et dors
Qui marquent mon me

Snow in the Sahara
Anggun

Dis-moi simplement si tu veux de moi
Quand tu partiras là-bas

Blast from the past.

Here are a couple of songs that have been lingering in my mind. As it is Friday here in Manila (or better known as 24K Friday), it is a perfect excuse to reminisce into the 80s or songs that we grew up with. Rock on RT.

Don't Dream It's Over (Neil Finn)
Crowded House

There is freedom within, there is freedom without
Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup
There's a battle ahead, many battles are lost
But you'll never see the end of the road
While you're traveling with me

Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won't win

Now I'm towing my car, there's a hole in the roof
My possessions are causing me suspicion but there's no proof
In the paper today tales of war and of waste
But you turn right over to the T.V. page

Now I'm walking again to the beat of a drum
And I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart
Only shadows ahead barely clearing the roof
Get to know the feeling of liberation and relief

Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
Don't ever let them win

Nothing Compares 2 U
Sinead O'Connor

It's been seven hours and fifteen days
Since you took your love away
I go out every night and sleep all day
Since you took your love away
Since you been gone I can do whatever I want
I can see whomever I choose
I can eat my dinner in a fancy restaurant
But nothingI said nothing can take away these blues

'Cause nothing compares
Nothing compares to you

It's been so lonely without you here
Like a bird without a song
Nothing can stop these lonely tears from falling
Tell me baby where did I go wrong
I could put my arms around every boy I see
But they'd only remind me of you
I went to the doctor and guess what he told me
Guess what he told me
He said girl u better try to have fun
No matter what you do
But he's a fool

'Cause nothing compares
Nothing compares to you

All the flowers that you planted, mama
In the back yard
All died when you went away
I know that living with you baby was sometimes hard
But I'm willing to give it another try

Nothing compares
Nothing compares to you

Discussions on Homosexuality and Beyond

Discussions on HomoSexuality

As I was talking to M, I got this message from him. He said that is was something he copied.

Looking through the context of this message, it is quite politically correct in essence. It was done in good taste and has no intentions of ever being malicious towards gay people. I quote what he told me.

"Homophobic means afraid of homosexuals. I am not afraid of homosexuals in the least. In fact, I find them quite harmless and ineffectual (Andrew Cunanan notwithstanding). Homophobic is not the correct word. I lack respect for male homosexuality. I have no problem with lesbians, but I cannot respect a male who desires to be anally penetrated by another man or to suck another male's genitals or anus.

The correct word would be "disgusted", not homophobic. Gay men are entitled to equal legal rights, but they are not entitled to being respected for their sexual practices.

Legally you may be equal, but in the eyes of most men a gay male will never be respected as a man - because he is not a man."

From this quote, I can say that the some straight people choose to be blind or look the other way whenever this topic is being discussed. Some would offer their opinions, regardless of how destructive it is. This commentary however, shows that there are some people who would choose and strive to understand every individual differences, and accept a person for who he is and not what he is. How one chooses to live his life is totally indepedent from how one should be respected. All of us deserves to be respected. Ultimately, it is on how we enjoin other people to respect us. I know that being gay gives us the advantage of having the best of both worlds, and as always it has been abused and misused.

In my honest opinion, what makes this world in a constant state of evolution is how it struggles to establish each person have is own spot.

To each his own...Live and Let Live. Nice catchy phrases, but surely if those were taken irresponsibly, this world would be in total chaos. Its a good thing that we are capable of rational thinking (from time to time).

My first for this year

My first for this year

2004 is now history.

New Year. Challenges. I've been through quite a lot this year. Great heights and near unfathomable depths. Looking back at 2004, I have made two New Year's resolution: lose weight and quite smoking.

Come to think of it, I've attained both of them. For the weight resolution, I've lost 5 kilos. Quite good enough, but I know I could do better. As for smoking, it has been one year and a month since I smoked cigarettes.

I have reached this far to put it all to waste. There is no going back to where I was.

This 2005, I have two major resolutions and one character to improve on. They are:

1. Learn to Drive
2. Learn to Swim
3. Avoid procastinating.

Let's see what happens. I hope that I get to achieve them
all, as they are essential that I attain them before I
turn 30 (which is two years from now).

That's all for now. It will be and still has been a very busy start of the year.

I need a vacation.
