So I got a dvd copy of this movie today. Knowing Adam Sandler, I was expecting the humourous outbreak to be all throughout the film. WRONG! It was quite unique from most of the roles that he has portrayed.
For an actor who is more known in comedy roles, Adam can seriously transcend into a role he is normally not famous. Paz Vega was simply natural. She reminds me of Penelopé Cruz when she started out in the US movie circuit. However, Paz surely has a much sweeter face that exhibits innocence over sexiness.
It also tackled an issue of a mother being so obssessed with exercise that she fails to realise that her own daughter has an entirely different body structure. Téa Leoni's character was very complex. It was hard to understand on how and what kind of mother she was to her children, wife to her husband.
There's also a mother who fails to realise that her alcoholism has affected her daughter's (Téa) outlook in life in being a mother and a wife. It was uncanny that she managed to turn things around by using her misgivings as something her daughter should veer from.
I my honest opinion, this movie is great as it shows how the cultural diversity affects upbringing and how their children turn out.
